15 News Stories From 2015 You Should Have Heard About But Probably Didn't | Zero Hedge

15 News Stories From 2015 You Should Have Heard About But Probably Didn't | Zero Hedge

In 2015, the iron fist of power clamped down on humanity, from warfare to terrorism (I repeat myself) to surveillance, police brutality, and corporate hegemony. The environment was repeatedly decimated, the health of citizens was constantly put at risk, and the justice system and media alike were perverted to serve the interests of the powers that be.
However, while 2015 was discouraging for more reasons than most of us can count, many of the year’s most underreported stories evidence not only a widespread pattern that explicitly reveals the nature of power, but pushback from human beings worldwide on a path toward a better world.

Government Propagandist-In-Chief Condemns Political Incorrectness As "The Furthest Thing From Brave" | Zero Hedge

Some have called Cass Sunstein "America's Goebbels" since he sugggested that the government "formally hire credible private parties to engage in counterspeech," and was engaged by President Obama as 'Information Tzar'. So today's op-ed from the government's propagandist-in-chief, condemning those who choose to push back against political correctness, should be read with a Bernaysian perspective as Sunstein attempts to delegitimize any and every effort to argue against the government's view of the world.
Among Republicans, it has become politically correct to be politically incorrect. Actually that’s the most politically correct thing that you can possibly be. As soon as you announce that you’re politically incorrect, you’re guaranteed smiles and laughter, and probably thunderous applause. Proudly proclaiming your bravery, you’re pandering to the crowd.
A math-filled new paper, by economists Chia-Hui Chen at Kyoto University and Junichiro Ishida at Osaka University, helps to explain what’s going on. With a careful analysis of incentive structures, they show that if self-interested people want to show that they are independent, their best strategy is to be politically incorrect, and to proclaim loudly that’s what they are being. The trick is that this strategy has nothing at all to do with genuine independence; it’s just a matter of salesmanship, a way to get more popular.
Focusing on the role of experts rather than politicians, Chen and Ishida note that in many circles, political correctness is “associated with a negative connotation where people who express politically correct views are perceived as manipulative or even dishonest.” For that reason, the unbiased expert has a strong strategic incentive, which is to “deviate from the norm of political correctness” to demonstrate “that he is, at least, not manipulative.” Of course, the deviation is itself a form of manipulation, strategically designed to convince people that the expert can be trusted.

The New Cartel Running The Oil Sector | Zero Hedge

The New Cartel Running The Oil Sector | Zero Hedge

As oil prices wallow near multi-year lows, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the new cartel controlling oil prices is not OPEC but world credit markets. From Saudi Arabia’s record $100 billion deficit to shale oil’s continuing reliance on cheap credit funding, it’s clear that no major oil producer or company in the world right now is economically self-sufficient based on oil revenues alone. This situation has left the flow of oil and the decision on when to stop pumping the increasingly tarnished black gold in the hands of banks rather than oil men.

The idea that bank loans to oil companies may be in trouble is not new but there are increasing signs of late that these distress energy loans could end up defaulting and leaving banks with a mess to deal with. At the national level, countries like Saudi Arabia won’t forfeit their assets to creditors of course, but their ability to keep running deficit funding is going to increasingly depend on bond market appetite for energy related debt. That could be problematic in 2016. With the Federal Reserve starting to raise interest rates, bond investors may find that they don’t need to invest in energy debt to garner yield as they have in 2015, and this in turn could start to crimp oil production.
Economists often like to cite cartels as having the power to control production, but at this point it looks like the only group with any ability to actually curtail (or expand) production are the major banks that direct capital market flows. Of course that production power is indirect, but it is real nonetheless.
Banks are not required to disclose the loans they hold to investors and Federal regulators don’t disclose this data either as it would potentially risk a run on certain banks, but regulators are definitely taking note of energy related loans in bank portfolios. That attention may start to change the lending game in 2016 as banks look to pull back from energy production. For some banks that are large enough, it is even possible that a broad pull back in lending could lead to markedly lower production levels across many U.S. firms in particular which in turn might help boost marginally prices. To the extent that banks act in concert to do this, the effects on prices might be more than marginal.
Some big banks have acted preemptively to dispel investor concerns over the size of their loans to banks. According to third quarter data, Citigroup holds $22 billion in energy loans compared to a total loan portfolio at the bank of $632 billion. JP Morgan Chase holds $44 billion in energy loans against a portfolio of $791 billion in total loans. Bank of America has $22 billion in oil & gas loans against a total portfolio of $886 billion in loans. Wells Fargo has $17 billion in oil & gas loans against a total portfolio of $888 billion.
The total amount of loans outstanding to the energy sector is a little under $4 trillion, so these banks make up only a small 3 percent of the total outstanding loan market. In fact, U.S. banks are currently only holding about 45 percent of the total U.S. loans to energy companies, with around 30 percent held by foreign banks operating in the U.S., and 25 percent held by non-bank entities like hedge funds.
But the banking market is very much an oligopoly and where the likes of Citi and Wells Fargo lead, smaller banks will follow. So far, banks have not been acting in a cartel like fashion and are more worried about their individual loans than they are coordinating credit decisions to try and help salvage loan recovery rates across the industry. But with the increasing chaos in the energy sector, 2016 could force banks to change their tunes as they did in the housing industry in 2009 which in turn would lead to a very interesting 2016 for energy prices.

CLAIM: Iraqi Military Says the U.S. Secretly Evacuated Top ISIS Leaders from Ramadi | The Daily Sheeple

While we reported on what was hailed as the first major victory for the Iraqi military in the fight against ISIS, sadly, it cannot just be reported as a straight victory. Apparently now it has also been alleged by an Iraqi commander that the United States secretly evacuated top ISIS leaders from Ramadi before they could be captured.
This prompts at least two questions. One, who are the top ISIS leaders… really? Terrorists, or Western intelligence operatives as has been alleged? And two, whose side is America really on in the war on terror?

58 Facts About the U.S. Economy from 2015 That Are Almost Too Crazy to Believe | The Daily Sheeple

The world didn’t completely fall apart in 2015, but it is undeniable that an immense amount of damage was done to the U.S. economy.
This year the middle class continued to deteriorate, more Americans than ever found themselves living in poverty, and the debt bubble that we are living in expanded to absolutely ridiculous proportions.  Toward the end of the year, a new global financial crisiserupted, and it threatens to completely spiral out of control as we enter 2016.  Over the past six months, I have been repeatedly stressing to my readers that so many of the exact same patterns that immediately preceded the financial crisis of 2008 are happening once again, and trillions of dollars of stock market wealth has already been wiped out globally.  Some of the largest economies on the entire planet such asBrazil and Canada have already plunged into deep recessions, and just about every leading indicator that you can think of is screaming that the U.S. is heading into one.  So don’t be fooled by all the happy talk coming from Barack Obama and the mainstream media.  When you look at the cold, hard numbers, they tell a completely different story.  The following are 58 facts about the U.S. economy from 2015 that are almost too crazy to believe…

UK Revolts Against "Pampered Student Emperors" | Zero Hedge

UK Revolts Against "Pampered Student Emperors" | Zero Hedge

While stories of micro-aggression and "safe spaces" abound in America, it appears the growth so-called "little emperors" throughout the world's universities is on the rise. As Harry Mount rages in the following Telegraph op-edthe babies of the late 90s – mollycoddled by their parents, spoon-fed by their teachers, indulged by society – have now reached university and "It's time to say No to our pampered student emperors."
The little emperors have grown up. The babies of the late 90s – mollycoddled by their parents, spoon-fed by their teachers, indulged by society – have now reached university. Some of the brighter ones are now at Oxford, demanding that the Cecil Rhodes statue at Oriel should be torn down, because of his imperialist, racist views.
We shouldn’t be so surprised. If you’ve had a lifetime of people saying “yes” to you, of never being told off, you remain frozen in a permanent state of supersensitivity. I wasn’t offended by the Rhodes statue when I was at Oxford 20 years ago. But, even if I had been, I wouldn’t have thought my wounded feelings should be cured by tearing apart the delicate fabric of a beautiful university.
Universities are reaping the whirlwind of two decades of child-centred education. That whirlwind has imported imbecilic trigger warnings – when academics have to warn students that western European literature, from the Iliad on, is full of sex and violence. It has also brought the pernicious idea of “no-platforming” – when students refuse to give a stage to anyone who doesn’t fit with their narrow view of the world.
We shouldn’t blame the student emperors for all this. Their warped supersensitivity is the fault of the generation above – the teachers and parents who have so indulged them. I first noticed the disaster of child-centred education six years ago. Near my childhood home in north London, there is a late-Victorian school. According to the noticeboard outside, it didn’t have a headmaster. Instead, Mr MJ Chappel was called the “lead learner”.

The Cultural Contradictions That Have Crippled The Great American Middle Class | Zero Hedge

The Cultural Contradictions That Have Crippled The Great American Middle Class | Zero Hedge

The decline of middle class capital is partly self-inflicted.
Conventional explorations of why the middle class is shrinking focus on economic issues such as the decline of unions and manufacturing, the increasing premiums paid to the highest-paid workers and the rising costs of higher education and healthcare.
All of these factors have a role, but few comment on the non-economic factors, specifically the values that underpin the accumulation of capital that is the one essential project of middle class households.
Daniel Bell's landmark 1976 book The Cultural Contradictions of Capitalism held that "capitalism--and the culture it creates--harbors the seeds of its own downfall by creating a need among successful people for personal gratification--a need that corrodes the work ethic that led to their success in the first place."
I would phrase this in the language of values and capital:

Swiss Army Chief Warns Of Social Unrest, Calls Upon Citizens To Arm Themselves | Zero Hedge

Swiss Army Chief Warns Of Social Unrest, Calls Upon Citizens To Arm Themselves | Zero Hedge

Swiss army chief AndrĂ© Blattmann warned, in a Swiss newspaper article on Sunday, the risks of social unrest in Europe are soaring. Recalling the experience of 1939/1945, Blattman fears the increasing aggression in public discourse is an explosively hazardous situation, and advises the Swiss people to arm themselves and warns that the basis for Swiss prosperity is "being called into question."
As Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten reportsspeaking on the record for the first time since the November Paris terror attacks, Blattmann told the paper that despite a rise in security incidents over the past two years Switzerland’s means of defence were being reduced.
The situation is growing increasingly risky, Blattman begins.

"The threat of terror is rising, hybrid wars are being fought around the globe; the economic outlook is gloomy and the resulting migration flows of displaced persons and refugees have assumed unforeseen dimensions."

Blattmann: "Social unrest can not be ruled out", the vocabulary in public discourse will "dangerously aggressive."

"The mixture is increasingly unappetizing" Blattmann sees the basis of Swiss prosperity, "has long been once again called into question."

He recalls the situation around the two world wars in the last century and advises Switzerland, to arm themselves.

The Swiss Armed Forces had held many years ago maneuver, in which the starting point was focused on social unrest in Europe.

Swiss politicians, of course, responded with disbelief to the army chief and hold his warnings are exaggerated.

2015 Year in Review: 29 Trends and Events That Just Reshaped History (and May End in Collapse or Civil War) | The Daily Sheeple

2015 Year in Review: 29 Trends and Events That Just Reshaped History (and May End in Collapse or Civil War) | The Daily Sheeple

I’ve analyzed what I think are the 29 most important trends and events from 2015 along with how I think they’ll impact us all in 2016 and beyond.
This analysis is now published as a series of six podcasts onHealthRangerReport.com. Here are the bullet points of the 29 (or so) points:
1) Massive uprising against the political establishment (Donald Trump rides the wave).
2) Backlash against GMOs accelerates: Chipotle goes non-GMO, Russia bans GMO agriculture, more foods getting labeled as non-GMO.
3) Accelerating rejection of the mainstream media as leftist agendas are no longer hidden from the public. More people turning off CNN and the New York Times.
4) The rise of the alt media, including all the sites I’ve personally launched in the last year: GoodGopher.comFETCH.news,AlternativeNews.comTalkNetwork.comGlitch.news,Bugout.news,Stupid.newsNatural.News and many more.
5) The rise of the intolerant crybullies on college campuses as well as the new Tolerati class of intolerant leftists who condemn everyone else as bigots and racists even though THEY are the ones who are bigoted and racist.
6) Increasingly sharp divisions between political left and right; more talk of Civil War and secession. Signs that it’s all headed for a serious clash and possibly bloodshed.
7) Increased awareness of crisis actors and false flag shootings; Amazon bans book on Sandy Hook to prevent the public from even thinking about the possibility that mass shootings are often staged or accentuated with actors.
8) GOP merges with democrats to become the same sellout party of Big Government.
9) Government debt spending total blowout rockets the USA toward financial collapse. (Omnibus bill and $20 trillion in debt…)
10) ISIS terrorism comes to disarmed France, demonstrating the total idiocy of open borders and disarmed citizens.
11) Fast-track trade (TPP) pushed through, destroying America’s sovereignty and putting globalist corporations in charge trade, intellectual property and even labor.
12)Awareness of vaccine injuries accelerates as more families lose their children to deadly vaccines.
13) Public awakens to Big Pharma price gouging, thanks to Martin Shkreli and Turing Pharmaceuticals.
14) EPA unleashes massive river pollution, then tries to silence parties involved (while arming up with weapons and becoming a “militarized” regulatory agency).
15) Massive cultural push for gay, transgender themes invades all media programming, including Disney, Netflix and Amazon Prime; Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage nationwide.
16) Rise of government totalitarianism and the police state, more citizens awaken to the fact that they are now living in a police state. John W. Whitehead releases “Battlefield America.”
17) The collapse of America’s educational institutions into indoctrination centers that teach victimization rather than economics.
18) Massive oil industry bankruptcies as Saudis attempt to destroy the fracking and shale oil industries in North America. Watch for oil prices to skyrocketed in the next 1-3 years, back to over $150 per barrel.
19) Turning point on gun control as more Americans REJECT an assault weapons ban in the name of self-defense. Obama’s gun control push is utterly failing to gain traction…
20) Escalation of war posturing between the U.S., China and Russia.
21) ISIS invades America with the help of Obama, terrorism on U.S. soil; Obama revealed as a sleeper cell trying to invade, occupy and destroy America.
22) Obama gives Iran the nuke. Only a matter of time before Iran tries to nuke Israel and destabilize the Middle East.
23) Police state medicine accelerates with California mandatory vaccine push that now injects children with mercury in the form of flu shots (California suspends ban on mercury in flu shots for children).
24) Corporations ditch U.S. workers and push for massive worker immigration to replace U.S. jobs with cheaper foreign workers. Thanks, Facebook and Disney!
25) Doctor Oz survives malicious attack by GMO shills who tried to destroy him for supporting GMO labeling on foods. Instead, he exposes them as felons and fraudsters.
26) Statin drugs revealed as medical fraud; accelerates aging and nullifies immune response to vaccines.
27) Wave of deaths among alternative medicine doctors raises questions of assassination or malicious extermination of holistic doctors.
28) “Lights Out” book by Ted Koppel – risk of EMP or cyber attack grid down scenario goes mainstream; Ted Koppel exposes total government incompetence and shocking lack of preparedness.
29) Record gun sales as Americans arm up against oppressive government and attempted gun confiscation. Patriotic Americans are literally arming themselves in anticipation of a revolution or Civil War.

America Is Being Destroyed By Problems That Are Unaddressed -- Paul Craig Roberts - PaulCraigRoberts.org

America Is Being Destroyed By Problems That Are Unaddressed

Paul Craig Roberts
One hundred years ago European civilization, as it had been known, was ending its life in the Great War, later renamed World War I. Millions of soldiers ordered by mindless generals into the hostile arms of barbed wire and machine gun fire had left the armies stalemated in trenches. A reasonable peace could have been reached, but US President Woodrow Wilson kept the carnage going by sending fresh American soldiers to try to turn the tide against Germany in favor of the English and French.
The fresh Amerian machine gun and barbed wire fodder weakened the German position, and an armistance was agreed. The Germans were promised no territorial losses and no reparations if they laid down their arms, which they did only to be betrayed at Versailles. The injustice and stupidity of the Versailles Treaty produced the German hyperinflation, the collapse of the Weimar Republic, and the rise of Hitler.
Hitler’s demands that Germany be put back together from the pieces handed out to France, Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, and Poland, comprising 13 percent of Germany’s European territory and one-tenth of her population, and a repeat of French and British stupidity that had sired the Great War finished off the remnants of European civilization in World War II.

FOIA Documents Reveal Obama Took an $8 Million Vacation | The Daily Sheeple

FOIA Documents Reveal Obama Took an $8 Million Vacation | The Daily Sheeple

Back when Obama was first trying to get elected in 2008, he had this to say about taking vacations:
“You have to understand that if you seek that office, you have to be prepared to give your life to it. Essentially the burden that any president, I think, strikes, with the American people is, um, you give me this office and in turn my, fears, doubts, insecurities, foibles, need for sleep, family life, vacations, leisure is gone. I am giving myself to you.”
Between all of his golf games and vacations, the President has since gained a reputation for being one of the most laid back presidents we’ve ever had. In fact, his vacations may have created the biggest taxpayer tab in presidential history. A FOIA request by judicial watchhas revealed that his December 2014 Hawaiian vacation cost over $8 million for the 17 day vacation. The vast majority of the cost was flight related, but also included $91,000 in car rental expenses and $224,000 for hotel stays.
Even after taking into account the staff members and secret service agents that must have come along, those numbers still sound mind-boggling. All told, the costs for all the vacations he has taken during his presidency, amount to over $70 million (that we know of).

Cop Fires Pistol Inside Airport While Practicing 'Quick Draw' | The Daily Sheeple

Cop Fires Pistol Inside Airport While Practicing 'Quick Draw' | The Daily Sheeple

We’re told over and over again that police officers are highly trained professionals, who are sufficiently proficient with their weapons. However, many of them don’t seem to act that way. Being a great shot at the shooting range doesn’t necessarily mean that a cop isn’t a complete idiot.
Take 23-year-old Officer Brady Bratt from Des Moines, Iowa. Last Wednesday he admitted to his superior officer that he accidentally discharged his weapon in an airport. How did he manage to do that you might ask? Was there a friendly service dog nearby? Didsomeone call for help? No, not this time. He was merely practicing his quick draw skills.
You read that right. A police officer decided that it was completely appropriate to practice his quick draw, in an airport with a loaded gun. Apparently he “unknowingly had his finger on the trigger.” The bullet managed to pass through a hallway before it was stopped, and fortunately nobody was hurt.
It’s baffling to think that someone who is supposedly so highly trained would ever consider this a good idea. And yet, it kind of makes sense. After all, if you or I did this we would be thrown in jail without hesitation. This guy will probably just get a slap on the wrist and go back to work. It’s easy to be stupid when there aren’t any real consequences.

"Zero Confidence": 8 In 10 Americans Think Obama Is Losing To ISIS | Zero Hedge

"Zero Confidence": 8 In 10 Americans Think Obama Is Losing To ISIS | Zero Hedge

Who says the terrorists aren’t winning against our freedoms?
With Obama in office, it may be a certainty.
Nearly 15 years after the 9/11 attacks, the United States is weaker than ever, and it has perhaps dug its own grave engaging in protracted conflicts and wars in the name of hunting down terrorists.
According to a new poll, Americans today see their country as losing the battle against terror despite having the most powerful military in the world.
Apparently only 2 in 10 Americans think the U.S. is winning the war on terror, and see the ISIS Islamic State as holding the upper hand. In terms of public opinion, it may as well be zero.
The hearts and minds have been lost – right here at home.
According to the Daily Mail:
Americans believe more than ever that the terrorists are winning the war on terror.

In a new CNN/ORC poll, just 18 percent of Americans surveyed said the U.S. and its allies were ahead in the terror fight, with 40 percent now saying the terrorists have the upper hand.

The numbers are almost completely flopped from when the question was first asked, just one month after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Then, 42 percent said the U.S. was winning the war on terror, while 11 percent said the terrorists were dominating the fight.

Those numbers have bobbed up and down through the years, but this latest poll showed the most dramatic spike in public opinion, as Americans have grown increasingly concerned about ISIS in light of the attacks in San Bernardino, California and Paris, France.
If the poll numbers truly reflect the pulse of the nation, it indicates that a full three-fourths of the country believe Obama is failing, and that the American fight against terrorism – now well into its second decade – is all but doomed.
‘Zero Confidence’
Of course, the strategy (or lack thereof) to combat ISIS and deal with the Syrian crisis has many Americans expressing “zero confidence” in President Obama – enough that the ORC polling people found a major spike and shift in public opinion:
Now the largest chunk of Americans says they’re not at all satisfied with the way things are going as the country deals with this threat.

… 64 percent said they disapproved of Obama’s handling of ISIS, a number which has remained constant for the past six months.

The spike comes from those who say they have zero confidence in the current White House, with 30 percent now giving that response, up from the 16 percent who said it in 2010.
President Obama has long been a polarizing figure, but a significant “zero confidence” number is a pretty harsh rebuke, and a sure sign that policy is headed for a major shift under the next president, regardless of party.
As a result of the failures to stop the spread of ISIS in the contentious areas of Iraq and Syria, many Americans have in turn supported the knee jerk reaction to send in U.S. ground troops and engage in yet another war in the Middle East.
There is more war in the air, and the weakness of the current president has done much to contribute to that climate.

Why WWIII Is On The Horizon -- Paul Craig Roberts - PaulCraigRoberts.org

Why WWIII Is On The Horizon

Paul Craig Roberts
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 gave birth to a dangerous American ideology called neoconservativism. The Soviet Union had served as a constraint on US unilateral action. With the removal of this constraint on Washington, neoconservatives declared their agenda of US world hegemony. America was now the “sole superpower,” the “unipower,” that could act without restraint anywhere in the world.
The Washington Post neoconservative journalist Charles Krauthammer summed up the “new reality” as follows:
“We have overwheming global power. We are history’s designated custodians of the international system. When the Soviet Union fell, something new was born, something utterly new–a unipolar world dominated by a single superpower unchecked by any rival and with decisive reach in every corner of the globe. This is a stagering new development in history, not seen since the fall of Rome. Even Rome was no model for what America is today.”

Well-Armed Activists Openly Defy Texas Law to Feed The Homeless | The Daily Sheeple

When feeding the homeless becomes an act of civil disobedience, Americans have been asleep for far too long.
Luckily, however, there are still good people who are willing to defy such arbitrary and ill-conceived laws and ordinances.
The folks over at the aptly named organization Don’t Comply, took to the streets just outside the Austin Street Shelter in Dallas this weekend to perform, what has now become a revolutionary act – feeding the homeless.
“We are not complying with a bad law today,” Matthew Short, PR director of Don’t Comply said. “Evidently the city of Dallas believes that it’s wrong, or bad, or unlawful for us to feed more than a certain number of people at a time. But, during Christmas, we want to show love to our community and give these people a chance to survive the winter, whether it be with blankets or coats, or just giving them a holiday party like today with all kinds of cookies, and goodies, turkey and dressing, and the whole nine yards.”
Last December, the Dallas city council enacted Ordinance No. 29595,which makes it illegal to serve food to the homeless without jumping through a statist myriad of bureaucratic hoops, including a fee, training classes, and written notices.
One should not need to file multiple forms and pay a fee to obtain a permit to give food to those in need who are willingly ready to accept it. The folks at Don’t Comply know this.
According to Brett Sanders, hundreds of homeless people showed up to not only enjoy a fantastic array of food, snacks and beverages – but there was also an assortment of winter clothing that was donated as well.
“All of the homeless people that I talked to during the event were extremely grateful for the support and there was a sense of humanity that is indescribable.  Interacting with other human beings whom most consider to be living life at rock bottom will likely alter your perspective on the world around you,” explained Sanders.
The event went off without a hitch, even after code enforcers showed up. Lead organizer of the event, Murdoch Pizgatti was confronted by the enforcers who told him to file the proper paperwork upon the event’s conclusion to which, Pizgatti politely replied, “no.”
“We’ve already had to speak to the police, they’ve already come and delivered code to us,” said Short, explaining what happened when the code enforcers showed up. “But, after shaking hands with them, they realized we’re all armed – and we’re gonna do what we’re gonna do because it’s not an immoral thing that we are doing.”
Below is the powerful video shot by Brett Sanders showing the powerful effects of such moral civil disobedience.
