Someone needs to apply a clue-by-four to a whole host of businesses — most of the large businesses — in this country.
I am speaking to you, those who manage the “retail” economy, which is often staffed with relatively lower-paid service sector workers. Whether the place in question sells coffees, shoes, clothes or whatever else, the pattern has become the same.
Put people on part time to avoid Obamacare mandates. Ok, as far as it does.
But then…… refuse to have a fixed and known schedule. Vary working hours and days from week to week, sometimes with little or no notice when a change has been made. If an employee misses one of these changes then they’re an inadvertent no-show, no-call and are fired. That’s bad enough when the employee didn’t intend to ditch work.
But it’s worse when they do know, because there’s nothing they can realistically do that’s constructive. See, the motivated and, probably, good employees will find a second or even third job.
