In recent years a municipality just outside of Brussels known as Molenbeek, has become notorious for being one of the most dangerous cities in the EU. The predominately Muslim city is littered with no-go zones that police try to avoid at all costs. It has become rife with gangs, drugs, poverty, and of course, has turned into an epicenter for Islamic terrorism in Europe. Both the Paris terror attack, and the recent bombing in Brussels have been traced back to perpetrators who lived and operated in Molenbeek.
So what do you think would happen if a white, female reporter showed up in Molenbeek? Let’s just say that it could have been a lot worse.
Giovanna Pancheri, an Italian journalist with Sky TG24, was recently reporting on several protests in Molenbeek when her cameraman was attacked by a local resident while she was live on air.
Pancheri later explained that “There was a group of three trying to intimidate us who had nothing better to do. We had already spoken to them explaining that we were filming a live news report and that I would be the only one on the screen, but while we were filming, one of them approached us, tried to swipe the camera, and kicked the cameraman.”
