In what is being referred to as “the largest false-arrest class-action lawsuit in the city’s history,” New York City will be forced to pay out $75 million dollars because its police wrote not just hundreds, not just thousands, but hundreds of thousands of illegal citations.
In fact, it was over 900,000 citations handed out since 2007 without probable cause.
The reason? Reportedly to meet quotas.
The majority of the offenses were for minor things like drinking in public or trespassing.
