Energy Matters:
The wind continued to blow in August but not as steadily as in July, and as a result Gorona del Viento (GdV) supplied 57.8% of El Hierro’s electricity and 13.3% of its total energy demand during the month, down from 78.3% and 18.0% in July. Generation was 100% renewable for 22 hours and 0% renewable for 6 hours. At the end of August GdV had supplied 41.5% of El Hierro’s electricity consumption since project startup in June 2015, up from 40.8% at the end of July, and 9.6% of its energy consumption, up from 9.4% at the end of July. On other subjects; the grid crash of August 9, and El Hierro fever spreads through the Canary Islands.
