U.S. General Tells Syrian Military to Back off in Their Own Country

The hubris of our governments knows no bounds. That was made clear on Sunday, when the new US commander of American forces in Iraq and Syria, spoke out against the Assad regime and Russia.
Following an incident last week in which Syrian aircraft attacked an area near where US special forces were helping Kurdish forces, Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend told CNN that “we’ve informed the Russians where we’re at … (they) tell us they’ve informed the Syrians, and I’d just say that we will defend ourselves if we feel threatened.” As a result of that attack, the US troops in the area had to be moved, and US aircraft patrols were bolstered.
So our government puts boots on the ground in Syria without permission, and those soldiers give aid to Kurdish forces who are opposed to the Assad regime. These Kurds, who have been fighting Syrian forces every day for nearly a week, get attacked by Syrian aircraft. And then the commander of US forces in Syria has the gall to tell Assad’s military to back off.
Back off to where exactly? They’re already within their own borders, defending themselves from rebels that our military is helping. General Townsend is basically telling the Syrian military “Don’t hurt the soldiers who have invaded your country, and threaten to topple your government, or else!”
